KUBIAK SCORES GAME WINNER AT USHL PROSPECTS GAME!

FORMER U-16 FURY TEAMMATES KUBIAK AND BRADY NAMED TO USHL PROSPECTS GAME

There will be 14 of the 16 USHL member clubs represented at the Top Prospects Game and 30 of the players selected will be eligible for the 2012 Draft. Seven players are draft-eligible for the second time this year. The selection process for those players participating was completed in cooperation with USHL general managers and NHL scouts.

"The reaction [by NHL scouts and GM's] was immediate and very positive," Prince said. "There was a strong desire to see players at this midseason level when they've already had three or four months of training. For the scouts, this is the first time they've seen these players together since the Fall Classic."

Kubiak is a 1994 birth year and is listed at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds. In 31 games this season with the Steel, he has registered three goals and eight assists.

Kubiak was selected 181st overall in the 2011 USHL Entry Draft by Chicago. He played last season for the Chicago Fury's Midget Major team.he Fall Classic.

Brady is a 1994 birth year in his second season with Cedar Rapids.  In 29 games this season, he has 3 goals and 12 assists with a +5 rating.  Brady was a first round Futures Pick in the 2010 draft and committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

The United States Hockey League announced today that the 2012 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game presented by CCM will present a free online broadcast delivered live on FASTHockey, the USHL’s exclusive online broadcast provider. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 at the L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, Michigan beginning at 7:15 PM (EST).

GUST MAKING AN IMPACT FOR FARGO

The Fargo Force scored a 5-2 victory over the Sioux Falls Stampede to extend its franchise record-tying win streak to nine games in front of a sellout crowd of 4,811 inside Scheels Arena on Saturday night.

Less than eight minutes into the game, the Force did what they have done so many times over a stretch where they have won 12 of 15 games: they scored the first goal.

Dave Gust, who didn’t start the year with the team, rifled a shot off the far post and into the net to propel Fargo to a 1-0 lead. Gust was set up on the play by linemates Gabe Guertler and Alex Iafallo. The trio has become a great compliment to the top line of Austin Farley, Bryn Chyzyk, and Colton Hargrove.

“I think the line I’m with has really been helping me out,” Gust said. “They’re the same age as me so it’s easy to talk to them about stuff and ask lots of questions.”

The impact Gust has made on the team has been undeniable. The Orland Park, Ill. native has scored six goals and 14 points in 18 games. Fargo is an incredible 14-4 with Gust in the lineup. Much like Farley last year, Gust is a player that has made the adjustment to the USHL look almost seamless.

“He’s making it [look easy] because he’s a hockey player that has a lot of hockey sense. He sees what’s going on on the ice,” Fargo Force Head Coach John Marks said of Gust. “He just has a good feel to the game and understanding of the game. He’s got nice hands and everything else too. He’s just a good player.”

Fargo extended its lead to 2-0 when Hargrove found the back of the net. Hargrove was a physical specimen all game and he inked his name in the goal column after Chyzyk stole a puck behind the net and hit Hargrove with a centering feed.

The goal extended Hargrove’s point streak to an impressive eight games, and he has at least one point in 12 of his last 14 outings.

The lead became 3-0 when an unlikely player found the back of the net. Neal Goff netted his second career USHL goal in just his 16th game. He is a player that has bounced in and out of the lineup, but hadn’t played much as of late. He made the most of his opportunity by blasting a one-timer past Sioux Falls goalie Charlie Lindgren.

“I’m keeping it simple, honestly not thinking about the game too much on game days,” Goff said. “Just staying level headed and relaxed and just keeping my confidence. Obviously it worked out pretty well for me tonight and for the boys.”

Goff finished with an impressive plus-2 rating in the game and he played a lot of his shifts with veteran defenseman Brian Cooper, who finished plus-3. Goff said that playing with Cooper has been very helpful in his adjustment from Minnesota high school hockey to the USHL.

“It’s nice to see that he hasn’t played much, he’s worked hard, gets a little reward for his efforts,” Marks said about Goff. “He’s as much a part of this team as anybody else because anybody that’s not playing as much, as long as they work hard in practice, are pushing other people too.

“He did play well and certainly deserves to play in our next game.”

It looked like the Force was going to cruise to its ninth straight victory, but things didn’t come as easy in the back half of the second period. Mitch Hughes and Joseph Lordo scored goals less than four minutes apart to cut the Fargo lead to 3-2.

“We had a tough game in Lincoln, lot of travel, and they didn’t play last night. So, we were a little lethargic in the second period,” Marks said.

The Force geared it back up and dominated much of the third period before Farley and Jonny Brodzinski each added empty net goals to earn the 5-2 victory.

Zane Gothberg was solid once again; making 20 saves to pick up his franchise best ninth win in a row. Marks did say that he would like to get backup goalie Reed Peters into a game soon, but said tonight wasn’t the night.

The Force returns to the ice Thursday night when they host Sioux City at Scheels Arena in Fargo. The team will be looking to set a franchise record with its 10th consecutive win.

BOX SCORE

3. Colton Hargrove – 1 goal, 4 shots on goal

Fury Girls U14 Champs!

Congratulations to the Fury Girls U14 team for their Championship at the Minnesota All American Girls Tournament in Blaine, Minnesota.

Majors 5-0 at Beantown

posted Oct 30, 2011 3:53 AM by Josh Murray
Beantown Classic has decided to cancel remaining 19U and 16U tournament games due to the snow storm that hit the northeast region, and knocked out power to millions of people, including the main/host rink The Rinks at Exeter. The tournament has had power problems with The Rinks at Exeter a couple times over the weekend, but they weren't able to fix the problem again resulting in the loss of all remaining tournament games Sunday.

The tournament was made of one of the most competitive fields 18U Tier I hockey may see all year. 8 of the Top 10 nationally ranked teams participated in the tournament, and two of those teams had booked spots into the semifinals. It's sad we won't get to see a tournament champion at the end, but the tournament competitiveness was something to be remembered.

3 teams had booked themselves spots into the semifinals to be played Sunday morning, while one quarterfinal matchup still needed to be played Sunday morning because of power outage issues Saturday night.

Chicago Fury might have been the most impressive team at the tournament. Fury outscored its opponents 24-0 in the round robin portion of the tournament, and didn't give up a goal in two shutout wins in elimination round. Chicago Fury defeated cross-town rival Chicago Mission 3-0 in the round of 16, before taking down a red-hot Cape Cod Whalers team 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Chicago Fury was awaiting the winner of New Jersey Rockets and Neponset Valley River Rats quarterfinal game in their semifinal matchup.

The other semifinal had Detroit powerhouses Compuware and Honeybaked pinned against one another. Honeybaked decisively finished first place in Division E, then squeaked out victories in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. Honeybaked took down former TIEHL foes St. Louis Blues AAA 1-0 in the round of 16 and Cleveland Barons 2-1 in the final 8. Compuware took a more different route to the semifinals, including finishing second in Division A behind Jr. Bruins Empire to squeak into the round of 16. Compuware defeated Division D winner, Boston Jr. Eagles, 3-1 in the round of 16, and they followed it up with a 3-2 victory over Jr. Bruins Empire in quarterfinals.

Fury Performance Training Adds “Tendo Units”

One of the most exciting things going on now in athletics is the use of strength and conditioning to improve performance in sports. Resistance training is used to develop explosive power, maximum strength and muscular endurance, to correct muscular weakness and imbalance, to prevent or rehabilitate injuries and to improve technique and performance in virtually every sport.
Strength in and of itself does not guarantee high performance.
Power is the most important ingredient in sports. It is an athlete’s ability to rapidly develop strength. It is a product of strength and velocity of muscular contraction.
Human muscle is composed of two very general types of fibers: fast-twitch and slow-twitch. All people have both fast-and slow-twitch fibers. Fast- twitch fibers contract faster and can produce more explosive movements, but they fatigue faster. You cannot change the ratio of fast-twitch and slow-twitch fibers in your body, but weight training can maximize development of those fast-twitch fibers you do have.
TENDO UNITS substantially increases the efficiency of Fast- twitch fiber training, allowing the athlete to maximize his or her Power.

MIDGET MAJOR FURY FUTURES FIND SUCCESS AT USHL DRAFT

The Chcago Fury continues to find success on the big board for its junior hopefuls. This was very evident as Fury players found their names added to the "Big Board" at yesterday's USHL Entry Draft. First to the board was forward David Gust who was drafted 99th overall by the Fargo Force. " Gust is a complete player who has speed, skill and tenacity," according to Fargo Assistant Coach Jesse Davis. Next to go was forward Jeff Kubiak to the Chicago Steel.  Kubes will be playing alongside his brother with the Steel and recently has been selected to move on in the USA Hockey Player Development Program. Defenseman Christian Neumann with the 271st pick was also selected by the Chicago Steel. The addition of Kubes and Neumann from the Fury will aid the Steel in increasing their local fan base.

NAHL LATEST JUNIOR ORGANIZATION TO DRAFT FURY PLAYERS

The North American Hockey League or NAHL was the latest junior organization to draft Fury players on May 26. The NAHL is a Tier II Junior A organization with member clubs spreading from Anchorage, Alaska to Amarillo, Texas. Overall there are 26 teams. The 106th overall pick belonged to the Kalamazoo Jr K-Wings and with it they chose Major Midget D- Man Christian Neumann. Neumann had found prior draft success with the USHL. Several rounds later Major Midget Forward Derek Winkler was chosen by the local NAHL club, the Chicago Hitmen. As with all Fury Junior A draftees this represents the continued success of gettinng as many players as possible to the next level. Congratulations to all Fury Junior draftees for a job well done

CANADIAN JUNIORS DRAFT FUTURE FURY HOPEFULS

Two Canadian prospects drafts down and two Fury players have found their way successfully onto the draftboard and into the sights of top Canadian junior organizations.
Last week the Canadian Western Hockey League(WHL) held its Bantam Draft for players of the 1996 birthyear. NHL stars like Jerome Iginla and Shane Doan have been the product of WHL clubs.
In the tenth round the 2010 Fury Bantam Major blueliner Kevin Wolf was selected by the Seattle Thunderbirds. Kevin is 6'4", 195 pounds with a prototype frame perfect for the physicality of the WHL. Seattle is pleased with Kevin's performance and looks forward to his continued improvement and success with the Fury in his Minor Midget years.
The Ontario Hockey League ( OHL ) draft followed that of the WHL for 1995 birthyear players. 2010 Minor Midget defenseman Patrick Gazzillo found his way onto the draft board with his rights going to the Kitchener Rangers. Gazzillo had an exceptional 2010-11 season with the Midget Minor Fury and with the season's completion found a roster spot with the USHL Chicago Steel for 14 games. This included a strong performance in his inaugural game in which his defense of a teamate led to an altercation with the opponent's towering tough guy ending in a draw. The outlook is bright for this player who is gaining a reputation for both his leadership and grit.
The Fury family wishes continued success to these two players as well as Fury hopefuls in the upcoming USHL Junior Draft.

PRESS RELEASE

On April 22, 2011, the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, Inc., filed suit against six of its former Members who surreptitiously and abruptly resigned March 17 from Tier 1 after organizing a competing hockey league.  Prior to March 17, these organizations, while allegedly acting in the best interests of the Tier 1 Board of Governors and making decisions concerning the Tier 1 league, were organizing a new league to directly compete with Tier 1.
The basis of the lawsuit is quite simple - a board member owes a legal fiduciary duty to the organization and cannot have any undisclosed conflicts of interest.  These six Members never disclosed that they were working for months to undermine Tier 1 and set up a competing league even while serving on Tier 1's Board of Governors.  They secretly organized the competing league and then, after completing their improper work, announced their resignations.
Because of their improper conduct, Tier 1 had no choice but to file an action seeking to stop the new league and to stop these six associations from being able to benefit from their wrongdoing.  The action filed in court seeks only to enjoin, or stop, the associations and the new league from competing. The Tier 1 league is not seeking monetary damages.
Tier 1 Elite Hockey League is ready for the 2011-2012 season with 19 organizations committed to compete at the midget level and additional organizations are applying to become part of Tier 1. The boys (bantam through squirt) and girls divisions also are ready to compete with multiple committed organizations and additional organizations applying.  The League provides the highest level of competition in the United States for teams and players from East to West and from North to South.
The number of organizations and national scope of the Tier 1 League provides the highest competition among the best players through Showcase formats, ensuring national exposure while limiting travel costs and missed school days, and avoiding expensive tournament fees.
The Tier 1 League is excited to continue in its position as the national leader of youth ice hockey development.

Girl's Central District Player Development Selections Announced!

NEWS RELEASE - March 20, 2011

For most of the FURY players the 2010-11 season has ended. After a short “break” from hockey their attention is now being directed toward pre-season training for the 2011-12 season and participation in Spring sports like baseball, softball and lacrosse. But this is not the case for all the players. For players with exceptional achievement during the 2010-11 season selections are or have been made for participation in the USA Hockey Player Development Program. This is a multi-step tryout program that starts at a state level, progresses to a regional level and culminates for those who are ultimately selected with participation in a National Select Camp during the summer. Being chosen and participating at any level is an honor an serves as recognition of player achievements during the prior season. From a player standpoint it provides insight into what is necessary to play on a USA Select Team. Equally as important it affords participants the opportunity to gauge their play against same age peer players from across the United States. Additionally, it allows the development of new friendships that can last a lifetime! On the girl’s side the selection for participation in the USA Hockey Central District Regional Camp have just been announced. It is with great support, acknowledgement and recognition that the FURY family announces these selected players. They include-
